Face it guys, moisturizing is not just for women.
Winter is coming to an end, but that does not mean that it’s time to forgo your moisturizer. Moisturizing helps combat dry, flaky, and oily skin. The Key to finding a good moisturizer is choosing one specifically for your skin type. Here are a few healthy skin tips you can follow.
–Avoid using harsh bar soaps, as most can strip the skin of its natural oils.
–Use lukewarm water when bathing and washing your face.
–Apply your moisturizer to a damp face, this will create a barrier that holds in the water.
–Apply moisturizer daily!
–If you have oily or acneic skin choose a water base moisturizer. For dry skin choose a cream based moisturizer.
–Stay hydrated, drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day.
–Use a sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher.
Ingredients to look for when choosing a moisturizer.
Shea Butter– Shea butter contains vitamins A & E, promotes cell renewal and is rich in texture.
Grapeseed Oil–Grapeseed is not only an antioxidant but it also acts as an anti-inflammatory, minimizes blemishes and slows the aging process.
Green Tea–Green Tea is an excellent source of antioxidants.
Vitamin E–Vitamin E reduces transepidermal water loss from skin and strengthens the skins barrier. Vitamin E also stimulates collagen and elastin preventing the development of unwanted wrinkles.
Keep in mind when purchasing a moisturizer: Avoid harsh chemicals such as alcohol, fragrances, dyes, mineral oil, lanolin, and petroleum. As these ingredients all have negative effects on the skin.
